About The Trust

Charles Wallace was born in Calcutta on 21 November 1855 and died in London on 2 August 1916. A Victorian merchant, Wallace co-founded Shaw Wallace & Co 1886. He went on to join Burmah Oil Company’s board in 1902 and then became Vice Chairman and Managing Director of the Anglo Persian Oil Company in 1909.

 Explore Our Community

The Charles Wallace India Trust has made almost 3,000 grants over the past 39 years since it was established.

Around 6 years ago a Facebook Group page was launched and there are now almost 500 members.

The website, especially the Community pages and our social media presence will make it easier for all CWIT grantees to stay in touch with us, and with each other.

Each winter during the annual visit of the trustees to India, we try to organise alumni gatherings in different cities. If you are interested in attending one of these events please contact Sakshi Sharma at the British Council.

Alumni A-Z

We have gone back 10 years to create a directory of CWIT scholars and will keep adding to this list each year. If you are a grantee but cannot find your name, please register your details here.
